Udawalawe national park

Located in southern Sri Lanka, Udawalawe National Park is home to elephants, water buffalo, crocodiles, and over 200 species of birds. Visitors can enjoy safari tours, nature walks, and bird watching in this stunning natural habitat. The best time to visit is during the dry season from June to September.

Interesting fact: While Udawalawa National Park is known to be home to leopards, spotting them can be a rare occurrence due to their elusive and shy nature. Unlike other parks, Udawalawa sees fewer jeep safaris, resulting in leopards having less exposure to human presence.

If you wish to catch a glimpse of these majestic felines in Udawalawa, be prepared for extended periods of patience. Waiting for 3 or 4 days is not uncommon in the quest to witness these elusive creatures in their natural habitat. The scarcity of sightings adds to the excitement and challenge of encountering a leopard within the park.

Udawalawa National Park offers a unique opportunity to observe leopards in a setting where they are less accustomed to human interaction.
